This is an experimental technology
Because this technology's specification has not stabilized, check the compatibility table for usage in various browsers. Also note that the syntax and behavior of an experimental technology is subject to change in future versions of browsers as the specification changes.

The CanvasRenderingContext2D.direction property of the Canvas 2D API specifies the current text direction used when drawing text.

ctx.direction = "ltr" || "rtl" || "inherit";

Possible values:

The text direction is left-to-right.
The text direction is right-to-left.
The text direction is inherited from the <canvas> element or the Document as appropriate.

The default value is inherit.

Using the direction property

This is just a simple code snippet using the direction property to set a different text baseline setting.

<canvas id="canvas"></canvas>

var canvas = document.getElementById("canvas");
var ctx = canvas.getContext("2d");

ctx.font = "48px serif";
ctx.direction = "ltr";
ctx.strokeText("Hello world", 0, 100);
